Pretty much everyone in countries such as the UK, USA, Canada, New Zeeland, Australia and so on should have heard of the world famous Sci-Fi television series DW from the BBC! Now that DW is back on television since 2005 after it’s 15yr pause the serial has gotten very popular again, so mush so in fact that even the sci-fi channel has taken an interest in the TV show.

Doctor Who all began in November 1963 when it’s 1st episode aired on TV taking the Dr. & his companions back into the past where they helped some cavemen to use fire for the first time. Taking into account the totally new serial Doctor Who is currently the longest running Sci-Fi series of all time! Star Trek happens to be the second longest running Science fiction series of all time having began in nineteen sixty thee with episodes being produced up in to only a few years ago.

With the huge popularity of DW, the BBC started creating Dr Who Audio back in the 70s on cassette and LP. The 1st releases were for the most part soundtracks from the TV shows with linking narration by the Doctors. However due to their popularity soon after stories were made for Audiobook release only, often narrated by past Doctors of the TV serial.

In addition the Doctor Who Audio Book family was extended with the release of Audios from stories that had exclusively appeared on the radio. Also many of the lost shows have been re created by their original Doctors in the Audiobook format making them finally available to the public once more. While I write this the BBC’s Audio Book collection currently consists of over fifty titles. The range spans all the way though the 1st Doctor right up until the present Doctor, David Tennant. In addition Torchwood Audio & Sarah Jane Audio Books have also been added in recent times.

One of the cool things about Dr. Who Audiobooks is that they give us the freedom to listen to our favorite stories anywhere we please with the use of the modern mp3 player. With multitasking becoming more and more an important part of our lives it’s not surprising that Audiobook sales for both DW and in general have augmented. Another reason why folks like DW audio is because in many cases the audio stories are now read by the actors of the serial. Mothers and fathers also buy them for kids entertainment in cars etcetera.

The way things stand right now it looks like DW and its spin-off series torchwood and the Sarah Jane adventures are doing very well so things look good for fans to be able to be entertained by them for some years to come.
