Under the current economic conditions many of us are in the process of seriously looking at the way they lead their lives and attempting to make savings. An easy choice for many is to have a vacation in the United Kingdom of Great Britain the reason being that the pound has lost ground against other currencies leading to the fact that foriegn vacations for the British are expensive than in previous decades and much less expensive for people coming from Europe and America. In the following article I introduce you to the seaside resort of Southport, in Merseyside, England.

Southport is a exquisite seaside resort found on the North West coast of England. Tourist attractions include, Churchtown village, the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown, Churchtown village, Southport Pier, Lord Street, Wayfarers’ Arcade, Hesketh Park and more. Lord Street is Southport’s main shopping area. All down one side of Lord Street the broad pavement are covered by superb Victorian iron work together with a line of deciduous trees closer to the road. Over on the opposite side of the street you will discover  pools and fountains, flower beds and gardens and a Victorian bandstand. At the centre of Lord Street is more than likely the most grandiose war memorials in the U.K. with an obelisk at the centre and two further memorials on each side which feature large columns. Some of the finest of Southport’s architecture is to be found along Lord Street and it is where you will discover Wayfarers’ Arcade, a covered shopping area.

At the very end Lord Street you will discover the wonderful Hesketh Park. Hesketh Park gets its name from the Hesketh family the park is heavily wooded, just like Lord Street. Hesketh Park also has wonderful flower beds, hidden gardens, a play park, glass house and more but the lake is the most prominent feature.

You will find another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens in Chruchtown which has a a long expanse of water set out to appear rather like a river featuring the usual ducks and swans plus a bridge and boating plus if animals and birds are your thing the Botanic Gardens also has a tiny zoo, just in front of the museum and cafe. Churchtown village itself is a gorgeous number of ancient cottages, fishermen’s cottages and houses most of which are white and some of them feature a thatched roof. It is crucial that you take a walk around and that you keep your eyes peeled because there are a few hidden gems well worth the work to discover.
